Wallpaper Wednesday – March 25th – Storm Kiting

When storms roll through Cabarete, Dominican Republic, you can see most watermen rush out of the water. There’s usually plenty of warning time as the clouds can be seen approaching off in the distance. Not all watermen let the oncoming storm scare them out of the water though. Some look at this as an opportunity to fly higher, surf bigger waves or go really really fast.

This storm approached pretty fast but one kite-boarder decided he would stay out in the ocean to see what the storm would bring and he was in luck, or not luck, depending on how you look at it. The wind shot up and this guy was flying, skipping across the water and soaring through the skies.

The thing about storms and kite-boarding is that as fast as the wind comes it can also die, and that’s exactly what happened. He got maybe 10 minutes of amazing wind and then….PLOP. Nothing. Sometimes the swim back is further than others, this time, it wasn’t too bad.
