A couple of months ago we decided to start getting back into the habit of waking up before the sunrise and going to the beach to watch it break the horizon. We knew it wouldn’t be easy so we set a challenge to ourselves and made it public. That is where 30 Days – 30 Beautiful Sunrises – 30 Pictures comes from. For the following month we would have to wake up before the sunrise, head to a place where you could see the sun and take a picture.
The first few days of the challenge was the easiest part. We usually wake up early anyways so a couple of hours earlier wouldn’t do too much. About midway through the challenge is when it really started getting tough. There had been a couple of nights that we didn’t make it to bed until later, but pushed forward anyways to finish our challenge.
To make the pictures more interesting we decided to take the shots from different parts of the beach, as well as the mountains, and an unexpected trip to the capital had us confused as to where we would get the shot from. These are all shots from Encuentro beach all the way up to the beach in front of La Policia. For those who don’t know, that is at the opposite end of the town of Cabarete.
Looking back it was an awesome challenge and seeing all of the pictures together really makes the effort worth it. During this month of sunrises we posted the pictures daily on our Facebook page. If you want to check out the chronological order, as well as daily commentary on the sunrises check out the full 30 Days 30 Sunrises album. If not, then scroll down to enjoy 30 consecutive days of sunrise pictures from the Dominican Republic.
Inspirational and beautiful. Might have to “borrow” this challenge next time I’m traveling….hmmm.
Thanks! =). Haha go for it!! It will definitely make for some nice pictures if anything.
Love this! Waking up to a sunrise over the beach is a great way to start the day!
One of the best ways I would say =)

Si Chile definitivamente esta en la lista de paises que vamos a visitar. Entonces tarde o temprano estaremos por ahi =)
What a great idea for a project! I would struggle with the early mornings though
Yea it had its tougher days but once you get into the flow of it it’s amazing =)
What a beautiful challenge ! It was definitely worth the early mornings, these photos are breathtaking.
Thanks! Yea I think I may have to do another one =D
Stunning sunrises.. such great variety of rich colors! :)
Thanks! You should give it a try =D
This is a really lovely idea. I never see sunrises in normal life, but occasionally when travelling your body clock is confused or you have to catch a bus etc. That’s always great when it pays off in a sunrise!
Yea and when you think about how they happen everyday, and sometimes produce some insane colors, it pays off even more =D. Glad you enjoyed the post.
Wow, great photos! Those are more than enough to wake early in the morning – starting the day with positive vibes.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the pictures =D
