Van Life – Wallpaper Wednesday

As many of you already know, we live in a van. Yup, that’s right, and it’s pretty awesome too. Everything in one nice convenient little box. We named her Big Blu because she’s big…and blue…. genius I know.

With gray skies and rain following our every move we stumbled upon a campsite for a good night’s sleep. It was nice to be away from all man made noises and structures but there was only one problem. It was cold and wet, which lead to another problem: all of the fire wood in the area was wet.

We did our best to light the soaked fire wood and we nearly had it too. Unfortunately, the logs were soaked to the core. A nearby camper noticed our struggles, spared some dry logs, and a burning one. Tah dah, a few moments later we had FIRE! We got cozy by the flames for a while, threw the wet logs in for a victory burn, and went to sleep.

  2. Hey Guys,
I really really reallllllyyyyyyy want a Westy to travel across north America. But I am so scared of the repairs and reliability of something dad old and dated. Have you had good luck with your Westy ? and if you have had a break down has it been a nightmare ?

    Thanks for your time

    1. Hey Chad! Honestly I would recommend buying a van and converting it yourself if you have the time. The Westy is AMAZING but you can get really unlucky and run into all kinds of problems. They also don’t have very much power going up hills. At first our Westy treated us great but then we ran into all kinds of mechanical/electrical problems in Mexico City. Honestly, with those vehicles it’s a hit or miss. If you are set on a Westy, try going for the newer ones as they should have less problems but more importantly, any Westy you buy, when you go to look at it, look at everything! The plumbing, the electrical, the fridge, the hinges, the sliding door, check for rust, collision damage. Just really look at it, there are a lot of components to a Westy that can add up to a huge headache.
