Sometimes, we forget our way and find ourselves wishing we were living a life other than our own. Let me assure you that no matter your current status quo, you CAN find your way back on the path to fulfillment.

Often when people hear of our adventures we get “OMG! I’m sooooo jealous!” quickly followed by something along the lines of “but I could never do that because…..”

I don’t have the cash. I can’t leave my job. What about my mortgage? I’m just waiting for my tenure, for graduation, for the kids to leave the house. And so on and so forth.

These road blocks seem completely unsurmountable. They are the symptoms showing us that we are stuck in a rut, our life is not being fulfilled. Somehow, we’ve lost our path.

Travel isn’t for everyone, and many are not actually jealous of our adventures, but rather of our ability to live out our dream.

So if you feel your life is lacking a bit of “je-ne-sais-quoi,” or just flat out not what you had expected, this post is for you.

I speak from experience and while the things that got me to turn my life around are not necessarily the things that will work for everyone, I’m confident something in this post will get you moving in the right direction.

4 Surprisingly Easy Steps to Get Out of the Rat Race

It’s really easy, all you need to do to get out of the rat race, to change your direction in life, is to STOP!

It sounds silly, so allow me to elaborate.

After much self reflection, it became clear to me that finding one’s proverbial path doesn’t have to be complicated, it just boils down to four key steps, which are really similar to the ones you would follow if you were physically lost, and just happen to fit the acronym S.T.O.P.:

    1. Corinne, I feel like this is when you read our blogs!! Hahaha. You are NOT a rat, that’s just not possible. However, it’s also totally OK to be happy in your routine. Some people absolutely love the 9-5 life and I’m by no means trying to shame or change them (I’m actually kind of jealous) This post is not for those people. They should go about their lives as they already do and keep loving it!!!

This is for those people who are not satisfied.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, as usual.

  1. Jade, I remember when you read The Artist Way and I remember witnessing the impact it had on you. You’ve traveled a long way since. Keep embracing life, lady :)

    1. Gen, you were there for some of my worst times… that is for sure! I wouldn’t talk about it if I didn’t believe it. It was recommended to me by a friend and it took years for me to warm up to the idea, I’ve never even finished it, but it did have a tremendous impact on my life.

      Thanks for reading, as usual!
